Disappointing Berryessa - 2/19

Besides the beautiful snow on the top of the mountains surrounding the lake (and getting to the lake!) the catching was not so good for team Geemoto. We stuck to our plan to stay in the narrows and managed 4 fish for 7.17 lbs and 40th place out of 70 boats. This was better than last year but not the way we expected after catching some good fish in practice.
We missed a few hits but generally just did not get on the fish. Lots of suspended fish of which we picked up a couple but couldn’t get the 5 that would have bumped us up in the standings quite a bit.
There were a couple highlights for the day though. One, a team I had convinced to fish who did not do any prefishing and had never fished as a team together ended up in 13th place with 11.13 lbs! Sweet! Another friend did a bit better with close to 12 lbs and 10th place. Very cool. I also did get our largest fish on a jerkbait which always makes my day.
That’s it for now.

Classic and Berryessa - yeah, not closely related...

This has been a day of torture. I’ve been racking my brain about Lake Berryessa WRL tournament tomorrow along with following the blogs and videos on the Bassmaster Classic. This along with trying to do my real job as well.
I do feel I have the information I need to do well tomorrow at the WRL and everything is pretty much rigged up. Numerous friends are calling and letting me know what they know and others who are participating trying to figure out what to do. Too much info running on through the brain!
The Classic is another area I’m following and rooting for Martens along with Skeet and our former CA/West Coast peeps. Would love to see a strong showing!
Enough for now, gotta finish up the day and hope to get some sleep tonight to do well tomorrow!

Berryessa - Feb 7th - Crazy Day

We had a crazy day. I'll keep it short and sour.

Started the day about 1.5 miles from the 121/128 cutoff with a blowout on the trailer tire. Shredded. We didn't have an allen key to take either the shredded tire or spare off so was trying to call for help but no signal. Fortunately a couple tubers (who I did tell about joining the club) stopped and gave me a lift to the cutoff and store there. The store hadn't opened yet but was only 1/2 hour till opening.

Here's a pic of the tire.

Ended up borrowing an allen wrench set from the guys at the store and started my walk back. Finally a truck gave me a lift back and we started changing everything out.

We got on the water around 9:30 and sucked most of the day until we found a jig bite and got some nice quality including a 3lb 4oz largemouth in the pic.

When we were heading home as we got into Napa we noticed on the same tire smoke coming out of the area. We thought initially it was the brakes and tried to gently ride it and make stops for a while. By the time we hit the outside of Vallejo it was smoking way to bad and we got to a shopping center. This was about 6:30 PM and when I walked along the trailer I heard a nasty gurggling sound and figured it was the bearings.

Pic of the former bearings

It took AAA over 3.5 hours to get a flat bed to us and we finally arrived home after midnight (and I wake up around 4:30 to go to work...).

What a day. At least we caught a few fish and got to wear our jersey's for the first time!
